2013 Since Xi Jinping has taken office, each practice of religion is subjected to stronger pressure. Religious symbols have to disappear in Chinese public. Big Buddha-statues, stupas, shrines and temples were demolished, prayer-flags were banned. Monasteries were equipped with camera surveillance (inside and outside), the number of nuns and monks heavily limited. Observers already talk of a new version of the Cultural Revolution. Tibetan children in kindergartens and schools are only taught in Chinese; the Tibetan language gradually vanishes. Even the ritual texts in monasteries shall be recited in Chinese.
