1906 - 20261906 Monks who were welcoming the Chinese general Ma Ti-t’ai were executed on the spot outside their monastery. Raiding and looting of monasteries were common during these campaigns, as military control was violently enforced and monasteries were seen as centers of power and potential opposition.
