Yeshe Tsogyal

Yeshe Tsogyal (757/777-817) (lit. “Victorious Ocean of Knowledge“) was a princess of Karchen (a region in Amdo, Tibet) and forced to become the consort of Tri Song Detsen, the emperor of Tibet.

During this time she began to study Buddhism with Guru Rinpoche and quickly became his consort.

Regarded as a female Buddha by the Nyingma and also by the Karma Kagyü lineage, she played an important role – especially because of her importance within the terma tradition.
