Vasubandhu

Vasubandhu (4th-5th century CE) was, together with his brother Asanga, one of the
most influential Indian Buddhist scholars of his time.

They founded the Yogacara school, which is an influential tradition of Buddhist philosophy and psychology emphasizing the study of cognition, perception and consciousness through the interior lens of meditation as well as philosophical reasoning. This took place in the frame of Mahayana Buddhism.

Vasubandhu’s main work is the Abhidharmakosakarika (lit. “Commentary on the Treasury of the Abhidharma“). Vasubandhu as well as his brother Asanga was among the so-called 17 Nalanda Masters.
