Sukhasiddhi

Sukhasiddhi was a married woman with three daughters and three sons. She lived an average life for most of her life and was not aware that she was a yogini.

The monsoon once failed to come, many people almost starved. So she was expelled of her home and had to flee to Uddhiyana. Before she left out of compassion, she shared a big bowl of rice with a beggar (who was Virupa – but she didn’t know it at that time). Because of her diligence and compassionate activity she met Virupa again who became her root lama.

She reached enlightenment in her mid-sixties, donating the dharma two gifts: first are the Six Teachings of Sukhasiddhi (similar to the ones of Naropa), and second, together with Niguma, Maitripa, Khyungpo Naljor and others she founded the Shangpa Kagyü School of Tibetan Buddhism.
