Marpa
Marpa is seen as the father of the Kagyü lineage. He translated and installed the Dharma, which he received during his three journeys to India from many famous scholars and yogis, in his home country Tibet. These dharma teachings are now known as Tibetan Buddhism.
Traveling for a total of 21 years, he underwent hard times while learning, meditating and receiving all the transmissions. In Tibet, he lived as a lay practitioner and Buddhist teacher, as a landlord with family.
Marpa is said to have been a man of exceptional power and wisdom, although his behavior often shocked those around him.
