Khyabje Urgyen Rinpoche
Khyabje Urgyen Rinpoche (1920-1996) was a great Buddhist master of both the Kagyü and Nyingma lineage. Born in Drakyul in Tibet he started in a very young age his Buddhist education after being healed from a serious disease by a miracle when he still was a little boy.
He came into the care of the 15th Karmapa and became a holder of the teachings of Chökyur Lingpa, Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo and Jamgön Kongtrul Lodrö Thaye. He founded several monasteries as well as retreat places in Nepal. Most of the time of his life he meditated in solitary retreat in an hermitage of Nagi Gompa in the upper part of Kathmandu valley. But he decided not to live the life of a monk and had six children.
In 1980 he traveled in the company of his oldest son Chökyi Nyima to Europe, the United States of America and South-eastern Asia to give teachings about Dzogchen and Mahamudra. After that, he continued this activity by giving a meditation course in Kathmandu once a year.
