Chobgye Trichen Rinpoche
Chobgye Trichen Rinpoche (1920-2007) was the head of a branch of the Sakya lineage, the
subschool with the name Tsarpa. With the Chinese invasion he fled from Tibet to Mustang,
where his sister was married to the king. He held a close connection to the Dalai Lama
and became the secretary general of the Council for Religious and Cultural Affairs of the
Tibetan government in exile – until 1969. Additionally, he founded two monasteries, one in
Lumbini and another in Kathmandu. Many of the great Buddhist masters of his time were
his disciples.
