Chandrakirti


Chandrakirti was born in Southern India, lived from ~600-~650.
His name means “The Glory of the Moon”.

Chandrakirti lived in the Monastery of Nalanda. He was a great philosopher and became famous as a commentator on the Madhyamaka works of Nagarjuna and as a scholar of the Mahayana school. His main work, the so called Madyamakavatara became of high influence in northern India and Tibet from the 11th century on until today.
