Bo Kangkar Rinpoche
Bo Kangkar Rinpoche (1892-1957) was the 9th Kangkar Lama, Karma Shedrub Chökyi Sengge, born in Sade in Minyak.
He was recognized by the 15th Karmapa as the reincarnation of the 8th Kangar Lama at an age of three. When five, he had already learned to read and write and ask for teachings in one of the major Karma Kagyü monasteries.
Lama Norbu, who was his tutor, told this to the leaders of the monasteries, so that Bo Kangkar Rinpoche was allowed to enter the Monastery of Palpung in an age of 18, where he, in addition, to the Buddhist teachings, received teachings in medicine, poetry and grammar. Later, at Tsurphu Monastery, he came into contact with the 15th Karmapa who gave him tantric transmissions and teachings.
In return he stayed with the 16th Karmapa after attending his enthronement ceremony in 1930 and became his private tutor for one year. Although he was asked to stay longer with the Karmapa to teach him, he went back to Minyak – taking many monks with him.
