Bengar Jampäl Zangpo

When Jampäl Zangpo met the 6th Karmapa and became his disciple, he had already undergone comprehensive study and Dharma practice with great teachers of his time, such as Rongtönpa. His devotion to the Karmapa was so immense that he wished to deepen and consolidate his teacher’s instructions through intensive meditation practice.

After a subsequent 18-year retreat, Jampäl Zangpo composed the invocations of the Kagyü lineage, which is still chanted in the beginning of the Phowa practice, (as many Diamond Way Buddhists know from the Phowa meditation with Lama Ole) and which carries a special blessing, the Dorje Chang Thungma.
