9th Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche
The 9th Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche (1897-1962) was the older brother of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and learned from many of the great Kagyü masters, as for example the 15th Karmapa and the 1st Jamgön Kongtrul, but also from other great masters of the Rimé movement, which were from different lineages and holders of many teachings and transmissions – so that one can say that he was very learned, but did not belong to any specific lineage tradition, although he was very closely connected to Karma Kagyü.
He also became student of the 11th Situpa and 2nd Jamgön Kongtrul and finally fled with the 16th
Karmapa and stayed for his last years in Rumtek Monastery, where he then passed away.
