6th Panchen Lama, Lobsang Palden Yeshe
The 6th Panchen Lama, Lobsang Palden Yeshe (1738-1780) was one of the main figures
of the Gelugpa lineage and responsible for the ordination of the young 8th Dalai Lama
at Petal Palace in 1762.
Beside the Dalai Lama the Panchen Lama was highly regarded by the Chinese because he had a good relation to their emperor, who showed interest in the Gelug teachings. He was the step-brother of the 10th Shamarpa.
