5th Gyaltsab Rinpoche, Dragpa Chöyang

The 5th Gyaltsab Rinpoche, Dragpa Chöyang (1618-1658) was enthroned by the 6th Shamarpa and spent most of his life in retreat.

He became a friend of the 5th Dalai Lama, and later, when the 10th Karmapa had to leave Tibet to flee the Mongol, he took over, at his request, the tasks as regent of the monastery in Tsurphu.
