10th Trungpa Tulku, Chökyi Nyinje

The 10th Trungpa Tulku, Chökyi Nyinje (1879–1939) preferred a live as a yogi instead of taking his traditional role as head of Surmang Monastery. He meditated a lot and at a certain point left his monastery to study with the 1st Jamgön Kongtrul. It took many years before he returned to Surmang.

After his time with the Jamgön Kongtrul he was a realized master and became the teacher of Dilgo Khyentse and the 2nd Jamgön Kongtrul, who in return became the teachers of his 11th reincarnation.
